Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction

A subset of people experience a debilitating condition known as Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) following the use of SSRI and SNRI medication.

Common symptoms include, but are not limited to: genital numbness, a complete loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, cognitive dysfunction, anhedonia and emotional blunting.

Professionals speak out

DR. ROBERTO COSIMO MELCANGI

Professor in Endocrinology

“Despite the current efforts, more work is still needed to advance the understanding of PSSD in terms of diagnostic markers and therapeutic strategies.”

Dr. Antonei Csoka

Biogerontologist, Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy at Howard University

“Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) and related disorders such as PFS likely represent types of iatrogenic epigenetic damage previously unseen in human history. On the individual level the consequences are catastrophic, and there may be population-level effects as well. Increasing our knowledge and understanding of these increasingly-prevalent disorders is paramount.”

Scientific research

The PSSD Network strives to provide support and funding for scientific research on Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction, with the ultimate goal of discovering a cure or effective treatments for affected patients.

Presently, we are actively supporting the research conducted by Dr. Melcangi et al. at the University of Milan.

Patient Spotlight

To help dismantle the stigma surrounding PSSD, we consistently bring attention to individuals affected by the condition, sharing their stories with the world.

Video stories

A group of brave patients who have been affected by PSSD share their experiences on camera.

Loved ones and clinicians also speak about how PSSD has indirectly affected their lives.

Photo campaign

Patients were asked to submit a picture of them presenting a message that describes how PSSD has adversely affected their lives.

With this awareness campaign, we intend to make more people aware of the fact that PSSD is a devastating and life-altering condition that affects many.
