"Growing up in a homophobic environment, I eventually resorted to antidepressants. I was 18 when I went to see the psychiatrist that my psychologist had recommended me.
The psychiatrist prescribed 10mg of Lexapro, which eventually turned into 15mg, and then to 20mg.
They said the drug is safe, and any side effects will eventually go away. I took the drug for 5 months in 2022, from January to June. Today is June 2024 and its been about 2 years off Lexapro, my sexual dysfunction still persists, something I never had before starting the drug.
It has taken me time to accept my ‘new’ self, but I wish this hadn’t happened. It’s funny how the sole reason I resorted to an SSRI was to help me with my sexuality, and it ended up stripping it away."
